Florida man wins $1 million with scratch-off ticket

A Florida man won a $1 million prize with the $20 GOLD RUSH LIMITED scratch-off game.

This is Mario Torres, 47, of Boynton Beach, who claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Tallahassee,The Florida Lottery reported in a statement.

Torres elected to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $795,000.

The man purchased his winning ticket at Kenny's Mart, located at 214 East Ocean Avenue in Boynton Beach. The retailer will receive an additional $2,000 commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.

The GOLD RUSH LIMITED $20 scratch-off game, launched in September 2021, offers 32 top prizes of $5 million and 100 prizes of $1 million. Additionally, this ticket includes more than 33,000 prizes between $1,000 and $100,000.

The overall odds of winning the game are 1 in 2.65.

Scratch-off games are an important part of the Lottery's gaming portfolio, comprising approximately 72 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2022-2023.

Since their inception, scratch-off games have generated more than $18.39 billion for the Education Improvement Trust Fund (EETF).

At the beginning of November,a Florida woman won $5 million in the Florida Lottery's CASHWORD scratch-off game.

Janice Velez, of Kissimmee, had purchased the winning ticket after stopping at a gas station.

The woman also claimed the jackpot at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee and elected to receive her winnings in a lump sum payment of $3,915,000.

Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $44 billion to improve education and sending more than 950,000 students to college through the Bright Futures scholarship program.

It reinvests 99 percent of its revenues into Florida's economy through the payment of prizes, commissions to more than 13,500 Lottery retailers and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid out more than $87.5 billion in prizes and made more than 3,500 millionaires.
