A young Cuban from Santiago de Cuba, known for his imitations ofMichael Jackson, drowned early on January 1st in Santiago Bay.
The independent journalistYosmany Mayeta Labrada announced the news on his Facebook profile, where he reported thatYunier La Verdecia Wilson, better known among his friends and relatives as the “Michael Jackson from Santiago de Cuba”, he was 38 years old when he died.
“Around one in the morning, people who were with him saw that the 38-year-old young man jumped into the waters of the pier and began to sink,” the journalist recalls.
As Mayeta Labrada revealed, “it was not until he was out of everyone's sight that his friends tried to rescue him, but to no avail.”
The publication is accompanied by a video showing the rescue of the body, which, according to a young man who offered his testimony to the independent journalist, “he threw himself drunk on his own and thefreaks "Who were on the pier at that time did not jump in to save him until he sank and did not come out again until the boat found him."
The coast guard began the search at 3 in the morning until they found the lifeless body. “The body was lying on the wall of the pier until around 7:00 in the morning, until it was placed in a funeral box and taken to a hospital in the province,” he added in his report.
The young man's brother, currently imprisoned, could not attend his funeral, because the prison authorities of Santiago de Cuba claimed that they did not have transportation to facilitate his transfer to the cemetery.
Recently, the province of Santiago has been in red spots with the incidence ofmurdered young people or lost at sea.
Apublic complaint circulates on social networks made by the young woman residing in that territoryAnurgis Pérez Ferrer, where he asks to find his partnerDavid Castro Castillo and accuses the authorities of negligence who did not come to rescue him in time.
Anguish and denunciation go hand in hand in the unfortunate event that concerns this young 25-year-old fisherman, who disappeared on a beach in Santiago de Cuba before the desperate gaze of his partner and his community.
Last Saturday, December 30, David entered the sea to fish for a while and seek daily sustenance. I was in theEl Francés Beach and around 1:30 pm, despite being in sight, the residents began to get worried when they saw the distance and the strong wind because this suggested to them that the young man was in trouble.
The family and the community did not hesitate to act, alerting the emergency number repeatedly starting at 2:00 pm, about the critical situation of the young man at sea. However, they received a series of unfulfilled promises due to the evident lack of coordination and resources that characterize the Cuban institutional response.
