Javier Sotomayor receives an award in Barcelona for 30 years of his world record

Sotomayor was awarded the DiR Award on the 30th anniversary of her unbeatable world record.

The legend of athleticsJavier Sotomayor was honored this Monday in Barcelona during the newspaper's annual galaSports world.

Sotomayor was awarded the DiR Awardwhen 30 years have passed since his unbeatable world record in the high jump of 2.45, on a night where some of the best athletes of 2023 were recognized.

The man from Matanzas was one of those honored in a ceremony where Barca president Joan Laporta was also awarded for winning the club's 6 leagues in its sports sections last year; or the athlete María Pérez, two-time world walking champion.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen, goalkeeper with the fewest goals scored in the last League, was also awarded at the Palacio de Congresos de Catalunya; and Ona Carbonell, recognized for a legendary career in artistic swimming.

At his 76th Gala, the dean of the Spanish sports press also awarded Toni Bou, rider with the most world titles in the history of motorcycling, and Polish FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, top scorer in the 2022/23 Spanish League.

Sotomayor, owner of one of the oldest records in athletics, does not stop accumulating awards for her career.

In December, the former athlete received theLegend award during the ceremony ofPanama Sports Awards 2023, held this Saturday night in the city of Miami.

In social networks The Pan American sports entity highlighted: “We celebrate the king of high jump Javier Sotomayor, from Cuba, now honored as a Panam Sports Legend. His legacy in athletics is a testament to his exceptional talent and unbreakable spirit. A sports hero who has raised the bar for everyone!”
