A red Tesla car was seen in recent days in front of the University of Havana, according to what was recorded on social networks by an Internet user in the Facebook group Diplomatic Cars in Cuba.

"Tesla on the steps of the University of Havana"wrote user Maikel Díaz, who accompanied the testimony with a couple of photos and a short video.

The images showed that a man - perhaps the driver of the vehicle and not necessarily the owner - was inside the car as if in a waiting gesture.

As usual in every appearance of a Tesla in Cuba, immediatelyDozens of Internet users became entangled in all kinds of arguments against the usefulness of a Tesla in Cuba and the alleged difficulties of a car of that type on the island.

"There are cars that no one denies their quality, style or performance... but it makes zero sense to have them on the island. This is one of them," noted one commentator.

Others were struck by the fact that it was right in front of the University.

"I hope it's from a university professor!"; "That's for the graduation of the best student. Finally the dean was able to buy the Tesla..... Na, lie, it's from a student whose parents live in cruel imperialism and have an MSME," were other conjectures about the owner.

Another video of the same Tesla was published this January 31 on Twitter.

"Yes, a Tesla in Cuba. Today I found this in front of me. The blockade is shit"wrote the witness to the encounter, who in the published video joked about being the alleged owner of the vehicle.

The red Tesla that is being seen on the streets of Havana these daysseems to be the same asAt the beginning of October it caused a sensation on social networks, where the presence of the modern electric vehicle generated a wide debate.

In that case, several Cubans agreed to point out that it is a type of vehicle that will not be able to access all of its benefits on the island, due to the poor internet.

That first Tesla seen in Cuba was tuned at a SEA Automotive Workshop in Havana.

At the end of October, another video posted on the Facebook group Diplomatic Cars in Cuba showeda blue Tesla, without a license plate, circulating through Havana, in that case by Café Colón.

However, although the red and blue Tesla were seen before, the economic information blogCubatrade, revealed that it was aWhite Tesla Model Y 2021 arrived in Havana at the end of November, which became the first vehicle of its type to be imported through the first license for the sale of electric vehicles in Cuba granted by the US government.

In that case, the aforementioned source revealed that the car cost 38,850 US dollars and that it was owned by a Cuban couple residing in the United States.

The vehicle - the first "official Tesla" in Cuba - was even exhibited at a private event at the restaurant owned by the world high jump record holder, Javier Sotomayor.

The event included the premiere of the documentary “Driving to Change,” which recounts the adventures of businessman John Felder, founder and CEO of Premier Automotive Export, who became the first beneficiary of a US government license to sell vehicles. electricity to Cuba.

A red Tesla, another blue and another white. The same painted Tesla or are there really three? Someone joked on social media weeks ago.

Luxury cars in Cuba

In recent months, several imported cars have been seen circulating on Cuban roads, some of them high-end, unleashing the curiosity of Cubans who wonder what the “blockade” the regime is talking about is, in view of the growing number. of American-made vehicles that roll around the island.

The Instagram profile Autos de Cuba has been dedicated to documenting since the beginning of April thepresence of BMWs, Mercedes, Toyotas, Cadillacs and Porsches through various streets and avenues of the national geography.

In February of last year the Cuban regime announcednew measures approved for the sale and import of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, in the midst of the transportation and energy crisis that hits the country.

Two months later, in April, the US Treasury Departmentgranted licenses to Miami businessmen to ship cars, trucks, tractors and even trailers to self-employed workers in Cuba. The license is for a maximum value of 10 million dollars in each case and only allows shipping to self-employed workers, not to Cuban Government agencies.
