Officials leave Guantánamo journalist stood up: "They should have talked about Food Sovereignty"

Food shortages in Cuba are one of the biggest problems facing the population. The government does not show its face, not even to the official press.

Cuban officials stood up the official journalistMiguel Reyes Mendoza, in a Guantánamo Television program, where they would debate the Food Sovereignty Law and nutrition in Cuba.

In the middle of thefood shortage that hits the Cuban people, the officials decided not to show their faces to the press, and not to answer the questions that could arise on the set.

"Irresponsibility hurts...and even more so if it has to do with the people. In 16 years of Television I have never encountered such a sad phenomenon. The absence of guests from the program has already become routineLive, intended to debate issues that concern the Guantanamo population," Reyes said on his Facebook profile.

The program was dedicated toFood Sovereignty and Nutrition Education Law. The Government Coordinator, the representatives of the Delegation of Agriculture, the Provincial Directorate of the Food Company, and the Provincial Directorate of Health were absent from the meeting with the press.

It is not the first time thatGuantánamo officials refuse to provide information to the people in the provincial media.

"Why has disrespect for Television become common in Guantanamo, when communication is precisely one of the pillars of the country? (...) With what responsibility can those who are not capable of responding to the press carry out their missions? "I'll be very sincere: Respect the people!" Reyes said.

The official journalist ended his publication using a fragment of a speech byRaul Castro, giving provincial officials a taste of their own medicine:

"Those who, due to insufficient capacity, lack of preparation or because they have become tired, are not up to the task required by the moment, must give their place to another colleague willing to take on the task. I call upon all our cadres to meditate every day on what "more can be done to justify the trust and exemplary support of our compatriots, even in the midst of so many needs."

The Cuban regime does not have the elements to defend a discourse as contradictory as that of Food Sovereignty, in a country where practicallythere's no food or has an excessively expensive price due to inflation.

Food production is increasingly lower. In many homes, parents cannot even guarantee a plate of rice and a glass of sugar water for their children.

The official press most of the time covers up this reality, and when it tries to put the issues on the table, the government representatives simply do not show their faces, and nothing happens.
