Authorities in the city of Doral, in Miami-Dade, arrested a woman for hitting her son with a belt.
The woman, a Hispanic woman identified asValery Fernandez, 38, appeared in court Tuesday, where she was officially charged with child abuse.
The incident occurred on February 7 in the apartment where the mother and son reside, in a building located in the area of 41st Street and 115th Avenue northwest.
According to the arrest warrant, to which he had accessAmerica TeVe, the womanHe hit the minor with a belt five times all over his body. The blows caused damage to the inside of his left bicep.
The fact became known whenthe boy told a teacher at school, who reported it to the authorities.
Doral police arrested Valery at his home. During the investigation, the woman refused to speak to officers without an attorney. After being charged, she was transferred to the county's Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Detention Center.
On Tuesday,She appeared in court sitting in a wheelchair.
When asked by Judge Mindy Glazer, she responded that her boyfriend had money to pay bail, to which the judge imposed one of one thousand dollars.
