The former Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States in 2024 and current mayor of Miami,Francis Suarez, made public his decision to support the candidacy of the former presidentDonald Trump.

In a statement released Friday, Suárez highlighted Trump as "the only candidate who can keep our country safe," underscoring his commitment to border security and reducing inflation.

"After seeing our current president and President Trump at the border, and having been there last week, it is clear to me that the only candidate who will keep our country safe, our border secured, will reduce inflation and who can coherently guide our country forward, is President Donald J. Trump," Suárez said.

Making clear his support for the Republican leader, the mayor of Miami expressed his willingness to "help him campaign based on his solid record."and contrast it with that of the current administration".

"I especially hope to help President Trump and the Republican Party win a greater share of Hispanic voters, young voters and voters in our cities and urban centers," he added.

This announcement of support from Suárez comes after recent visits by Trump and the presidentJoe Biden to the border with Mexico. Biden, during his visit, urged Trump to work to gain bipartisan support in Congress for an immigration deal.

Suárez, 46 years old andof Cuban origin, is positioned as an important Latino leader in the Republican political arena.Although he withdrew from the presidential race, Suárez remains an influential figure in the party and among Hispanic and young voters.

In an interview withFox Business, Suárez pointed out that immigration is a crucial issue inthe next presidential elections. Additionally, he expressed his enthusiasm for endorsing Trump and the Republican Party to gain greater support among Hispanics, young voters and urban residents.

Suárez, known for his focus on urban issues and his vision of modernization for Miami, plans to use his platform to highlight Trump's record and contrast it with that of the current Administration.

Considered in May 2021 asone of the 50 most important leaders in the world, his endorsement of Trump highlights the diversity of opinions within the Republican Party and suggests a possible change in political dynamics ahead of the upcoming elections.

Suárez's announcement is a reminder of the crucial role that local leaders play in shaping the national political landscape, especially in states like Florida, where Hispanic voters have a significant influence on the electoral outcome.

His support for Trump could influence the Hispanic community's perception of the presidential election and the Republican Party's future strategy to attract diverse voters.

While he remained among the Republican Party candidates for the next elections, Suárez recalled last July that it was two years since “the greatest protest for freedom in Cuba.”

He also noted that “unfortunately, the Biden Administration ignored their pleas for help. As president, I would like to have a message for the oppressors of Cuba: freedom is coming!”
