"What do I do?": Cuban desperate for lack of blood donation bags for his mother

The old woman has been waiting for eight days for a blood donation.

A Cuban pleaded on social networks for help because his mother has been waiting for more than a week for a blood donation in the municipalityPylon, in the provinceGranma, and they have not been able to put it on because the hospital claims that there are no bags.

“I need a blood donation in Pilón, Granma. There are donors and supposedly there are no blood bags in the hospital”, explained Internet user Alexis Vargas in avideo which he posted on Facebook.

"That I have to do? My mom has been waiting for a blood donation for eight days and there are no bags. There are donors and there are no bags, what do I do? Please, what else do I do?” Vargas questioned.

In the comments section, Olga Vargas, apparently another daughter of the old woman, reiterated the request and shared a photo of her mother.

"What do we do? Please let the responsible people's hearts move [...] It is necessary for my mother to improve her health," the woman wrote.

In the comment section, several people showed solidarity with the family and outraged with the health authorities.

The blood shortage in Cuba has become one of many problems on the island. However, this family's request confirms that even having a donor is not enough because there is even a lack of essential supplies to complete the donation.

In recent monthsrequests from Cubans on social networks to find who can save their lives or those of their relatives with voluntary donations.

Data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) show thatBetween 1990 and 2019 the number of blood donors in Cuba decreased significantly, going from approximately 389,000 to 209,000 per year.

Anguished by the urgency, some Cubans in need of blood for a loved one have not even hesitated to offer money in exchange for a donation.

In the case of the elderly woman from Pilón it is even more painful, since although they have the donor, the lack of supplies to materialize the blood donation is putting her life in danger.
