Díaz-Canel announces that the shortage of medicines and medical supplies will continue

In Cuba, more than 200 basic medicines were in short supply.


Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that the shortage of medicines and medical supplies will continue on the island, where pharmacies are out of stock and dozens of basic products are missing.

In a meeting with officials from the Health sector where the lack of supplies and theexodus of professionals that affects Cuban hospitals, the president said that there are negative trends in the sector such as "the sale of services."

"Given the lack of supplies and medicines, the best response we can give to our population in such difficult times is the quality of services, with shortages, we are going to have them, we are going to continue with a lack of medicines," he stated.

Complaints about poor health care in Cuba have increased. Likewise, the situation in hospitals is increasingly dire, patients complain.

Cuba has had a serious deficit of basic medicines since 2020. Last September, the business group of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries BioCubaFarma announced the acquisition of the necessary inputs for the manufacture of 16 deficient medicines and announced its commitment to increase production. by the end of the year.

However, reports from various regions of the country indicate thatmedications such as enalapril They have an irregular distribution.

In July a total of251 medications that are manufactured in Cuba were missing, which represents 40% of those contemplated in the basic table.
