María Victoria Gil threatens to sue "Con Filo" for defaming her brother

The popular Cuban broadcaster expressed her outrage at "the slurs and libels" of the Castro regime concerning her brother, Alejandro Gil, who was removed from his positions as vice prime minister and minister of Economy and Planning.

María Victoria Gil, sister of former Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Alejandro Gil, who is being investigated for corruption, threatened to sue the program "Con Filo" and its host Michel Torres Corona for defamation.

"At no point have any corruption or other crimes been attributed to my brother; therefore, if this process proves his innocence, which I am absolutely certain of, I will come forward as a private accuser against him and against the referenced program," the popular broadcaster stated on the social media platform Facebook.

In a recent broadcast of the program “Con Filo,” aired by Cuban television, the spokesman for the Castro regime launched a fierce attack against the dismissed Minister of Economy and Planning, labeling him a traitor, while emphasizing that no one is above the law.

"I will personally ensure that the full weight of the law is brought upon them for defamation and slander," stated the former host of the show "De la gran Escena," who held the position for 30 years.

The communicator, who is also a licensed attorney in Cuba, added while addressing Torres: “I remind you that defamation is a crime outlined and punished under the Cuban Penal Code.”

María Victoria, who lives in the city of Tenerife, Spain, stated that she will seek justice for her brother: “If he has been chosen as a scapegoat, I will also ensure that all the accomplices and true corrupt individuals fall with him. I swear to God, even if it costs me my own life.”

In an interview with the Canary Islands broadcaster InformativosTvc, the speaker stated that "the task of monetary ordering put Cuba in a critical state, and my brother was the visible face of the monetary reform, and we all know who holds the reins of the Cuban government."

He asserted that neither his brother nor his sister-in-law are in prison: “They are cut off from communication, and so is my niece, although she is working; she just doesn’t have a phone.”

In response to the interviewer's assertion that the regime is looking for someone to blame for the enormous crisis the country is facing, María Victoria replied, "It's normal; throughout the sad history of the Cuban revolution, this has happened countless times."

Regarding her brother's future in Cuba, Vicky –as the people know the broadcaster– said that exile is not an option for him; he only has to fight for the truth. However, she acknowledged that he will not receive a fair trial on the island.

María Victoria visited Cuba from March 3 to 10, during the week when the ruling Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly announced the investigation into his brother. Regarding that trip, she noted the despair of the people, who find themselves without a present or future, and expressed gratitude for not having been disturbed by the government.

Earlier, in February, Díaz-Canel removed Gil from his position as Minister of Economy and Planning.

The popular host denied any involvement in her brother's business dealings, but in an audio message sent to YouTuber Darwin Santana, she said, "How much harm my brother has done to me."
