United States border authorities urged immigrants not to undertake illegal journeys that put their lives at risk.
In a statement, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reiterated the message that crossing the border irregularly is extremely dangerous and does not guarantee successful entry into the country.
"Smugglers continue to recklessly put lives at risk for their own financial gain," CBP said. "Our message to migrants: do not undertake the dangerous journey, only to be returned."
CBP emphasized the importance of knowing and using legal pathways to the United States, encouraging migrants to educate themselves about the legal options available to enter the country.
He remembered that following the lifting of the CDC's Title 42 Public Health Order on May 11, 2023, the United States began to fully implement Title 8 immigration authorities to rapidly process and remove individuals arriving illegally at the border .
These authorities, which have been in place for decades, entail serious consequences for those who enter illegally or irregularly, including a ban on admission of at least five years and possible criminal actions for repeat offenders.
This information coincides with an announcement by the Cuban regime according to which it expressed that it is willing to accept more deportations of immigrants from the United States, restarted last year in the midst of an exodus of Cubans unprecedented in history.
The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, declared to CBS News that Cuba could receive more than one flight per month.
