They arrest a teacher accused of hitting a child with autism at a Miami school

The incident occurred at Edward L. Whigham Elementary in Cutler Bay.

A teacher was arrested this week in Cutler Bay, in Miami-Dade County, accused of punching a man in the face 8 year old autistic boy.

Rosalina Pérez, the child's mother, received a phone call from Edward L. Whigham Elementary School to pick him up.

When the boy, Isaiah Torres, arrived home, he showed signs of distress and physical evidence of abuse.

After noticing Isaiah's altered behavior and the visible marks on his face, the boy's mother decided to investigate what happened and recorded a video where her son tried to explain the incident.

In the recording, Isaiah pointed to the reddened areas of his face, allegedly beaten by his music teacher, identified as Erbil Barkley.

According to the child's mother, the attack was with an open hand.

Alarmed by the seriousness of the events and the emotional impact on her son, who has shown episodes of aggression after the incident, Pérez took Isaiah to the hospital.

The authorities acted quickly on the complaint and arrested the man.

The Miami-Dade School District, upon being informed of the allegations, immediately fired the teacher and prohibited his future employment at any institution in the district.

The entity expressed in a statement - cited by the local press - its deep concern about what happened and reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and well-being of all its students.
