Santiago de Cuba, the Cuban province where massive protests took place on March 17 due to the proliferation of blackouts and food shortages, is the territory with the least duration of blackouts in the last 24 hours, amid this new escalation of power cuts in the country.

According to the interactive map from CiberCuba, a tool that collects and analyzes comments and posts on social media to identify and verify reports of power outages, Santiago de Cuba is the province with the least hours of electrical disruption.

The update this Saturday regarding power outage reports indicates that only three municipalities in that province are experiencing electrical cuts. However, since this tool relies on public reports, it is possible that these are not the only affected areas.

It is noteworthy that this province was the epicenter of the protests on March 17, when hundreds of people took to the streets in a central area of Santiago de Cuba, shouting "Homeland and Life" and "electricity and food."

The demonstration began on the central avenue of Carretera del Morro and Calle 9 in Veguita de Galo, the capital of the province of the same name.

A video shows a crowd dissatisfied with the government's handling of the electrical situation, which is just one aspect of the crises facing Cuban society.

On Saturday, May 11, residents in the province of Las Tunas made headlines for their pot-banging protest in the midst of a blackout.
