The Cuban guy Robelis Despaigne, formerly a member of the national taekwondo teams and current member of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), suffered his first defeat in this type of event.
Despaigne fell this Saturday, by unanimous decision, at an evening held at the Enterprise Center in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, against the Dominican Waldo Cortés-Acosta.
The native of the Dominican Republic won in the first round, after knocking down the Cuban and dominating the time of control on the ground in the following minutes.
From that moment, gaps in Despaigne's technique became evident, and he was unable to turn the score around, despite looking better in the second half of the fight.
The third round was already a matter of process, because the Cuban was forced to knock out to take the victory.
Despaigne caught the attention of the UFC for his technical skills, acquired at the taekwondo school in Cuba, where he was a member of the national team.
In his career as a Cuban athlete he won the Olympic bronze medal in London 2012 and took the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018.
The fighter born in Santiago de Cuba debuted on Saturday, March 9 at the Extreme Fighting Championship, with a performance as devastating as it was brief: in just 18 seconds he knocked out his opponent.
