The images of the funeral of a Cuban mercenary who was fighting in the Russian Army and recently lost his life in Ukraine were shared on social media by the YouTuber Niover Licea.

Soldier Eduardo Montero Martínez, originally from Cienfuegos, was buried in the city of Kerch, Russia, as reported by the head of the local administration, Svyatoslav Brusakov.

Montero had arrived in Russia as a tourist in 2016. He had military experience from the Cuban Army and joined the Russian armed forces in 2023. He met his death on the battlefield, in Ukrainian territory.

Their passing coincided with the dates when Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel was visiting Russia.

The images from the funeral show relatives and military comrades paying tribute to Montero, whose death highlights the difficult situation of foreign mercenaries in conflict zones.
