Cuban democracy activist Rosa María Payá criticized the government of Joe Biden for removing Cuba from the list of countries that do not cooperate with its counterterrorism efforts.

Through her X account, the co-founder of the political initiative Cuba Decide described Biden's measure as "schizophrenic," and recalled that the Cuban regime, between 2022 and 2024, supported "terrorist organizations involved in the attack on Israel on October 7," and "sent soldiers and resources to the Russian terrorist state in its aggressive war against Europe."

Payá also mentioned that Havana called for an alliance with Iran, and was accused before the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity committed in Venezuela.

With this nonsense, the State Department whitewashes the face of the Cuban regime and betrays the national security interests of the people of the United States," he stated.

On Wednesday, the State Department removed Cuba from the list of countries that do not fully cooperate with counterterrorism efforts; and announced that North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Venezuela remain on the list for not meeting cooperation requirements.

The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, signed the document stating that the conditions that previously placed Cuba in this category have changed.

The measure has been interpreted as a first step by Washington to remove the Caribbean country from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

The State Department clarified, however, that the designation on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which includes Iran, Syria, North Korea, and Cuba, is managed independently.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba has requested in the last hours to the Government of the United States its definitive exclusion from the list of State sponsors of terrorism, and has described its inclusion in it as arbitrary and unfounded.

The statement from the Cuban regime was published on Wednesday, following the decision by President Joe Biden's Administration to remove Cuba from the list of Countries not fully cooperating with counterterrorism efforts.
