The price of the dollar falls in the informal currency market in Cuba.

For the second consecutive day, the price of this important currency is falling in the informal Cuban market.


The value of the US dollar (USD) fell again this Friday, for the second consecutive day, in the informal currency market in Cuba.

At noon on May 17th, the selling price of the USD was set at 390 CUP, three pesos less than the previous day.

The European currency remains stable at 400 CUP, as well as the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) which is being traded at 305 CUP, following the sudden drop it experienced this Wednesday.

Exchange rate of the Euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 400 CUP.

These equivalences are based on current exchange rates, where 1 USD is equivalent to 390 CUP and 1 EUR is equivalent to 400 CUP.

The exchange rates in the informal market are compiled daily by the independent press outlet elTOQUE.

In a recent article, they warned that, despite the drop in the dollar, the models of the Observatory of Currencies and Finances of Cuba (OMFi) anticipate a continuing trend towards the depreciation of the Cuban peso in May.
