The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) of Cuba announced this Saturday the closure as of May 21 of several facilities at the Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Central Military Hospital in Havana.

The publication did not detail the exact reason for the closure, although it referred to what was approved in "the FAR's Investment Plan," implying that the partial suspension of services would be related to a renovation, although they did not confirm it.

Taking into account what was approved in the Investment Plan of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and with the prior approval of the FAR Leadership, in agreement with the Ministry of Public Health and the authorities of the Party and Government of the province of Havana, on May 21, the facilities of the Emergency Center, Critical Care, and other areas of the Central Military Hospital "Dr. Carlos J. Finlay" will be closed, announced the institution.

MINFAR broke down in five points that we reproduce below how care will be once the partial closure of the hospital is finalized.

1) No medical emergencies or urgencies will be received at the hospital. 2) Medical assistance to the civilian population will be ensured as directed by the Ministry of Public Health. 3) The Emergency Service of the Central Military Hospital De Luis Diaz Soto guarantees the physical presence of all medical specialties on duty.

4) The Central Military Hospital Dr. Carlos J. Finlay will only continue to provide care through external services, consultations for military personnel, mobile health team, medical health check-ups in designated areas. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation, neurophysiology, hyperbaric oxygenation, hemodialysis, and angiography services are also maintained. 5) Three hospitalization rooms are guaranteed for the study and diagnosis of elective patients, surgical activity is reduced to patients who do not require intensive care bed support, and medical staff is ensured for hospitalized patient care.

Until the closing of this report, no other details about the closure have been disclosed, nor have the duration of the impact on the services provided there been revealed.

Founded on September 4, 1943, the hospital used to provide care to members of the Constitutional Army of Cuba and their families before 1959.

After the arrival of Castroism to power, the hospital center -renamed as Central Military Hospital Dr. Carlos Juan Finlay Barrés- began to provide assistance primarily to members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), although it has always dedicated part of its service to civilians.

One of the main issues that has hit Cubans the most in recent years has been the increasing deterioration of public health in Cuba, marked especially by the lack of supplies, medications, and also specialists.
