A Cuban resident in Spain shared a video where he reflected on the feelings that overwhelm him when he visits a supermarket to do his weekly shopping.
The young man, who was at a Mercadona establishment - a Spanish supermarket chain - said in a video posted on the TikTok account robertalvablogs that for Cubans leaving the Island for the first time, it is a "shock to see so much food and products" from different brands, something that is not seen in Cuba.
"We Cubans in Cuba buy by parts. In different places and sometimes not on the same day. In Cuba, in order to get anything, you have to wander around, as we Cubans say, the whole city and sometimes you don't even find it," he said.
This user's reaction adds to that of many Cubans who go through similar situations, some of which were expressed in the comments section of his video.
"It's true, you're absolutely right, I am Cuban and I experience the same," expressed an internet user.
While another person added that she, as a Cuban, is going through the same situation and "thinking about my family members who were left behind," she stated.
"I work in a market and it hurts to see so much food and my country with so much poverty," confessed a Cuban.
So much so that the stories of Cubans seeing abundance in food have been recorded in many TikTok videos, such as the case of a father who, after visiting a Walmart supermarket in the United States for the first time, could not help but be moved and amazed when stepping into the place.
