The official press considers "normal" the service interruptions of the thermoelectric plants after maintenance work.

"It is normal for the machine to need to be taken out at some point to correct any parameter that does not show satisfactory behavior according to what was planned. It happens not only in Cuba but in any country in the world," explained a UNE executive.

Journalist Bernardo Espinosa, responsible for conveying to Cubans the bad news of power outages produced daily by the Cuban Electric Union (UNE), referred to what happened with Unit 6 of the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant, without specifically mentioning this facility.

Disconnected last Tuesday from the national electricity system (SEN) without the official press explaining the reasons for the disconnection - which occurred within 24 hours of its synchronization - Unit 6 of Nuevitas was restored again amidst an especially harmful lack of information in the midst of the dark scenario of power outages affecting the Cuban population.

Espinosa, who covered the synchronization to the National Electrical System of the Camagüey thermoelectric plant, glossing over the "procedures of high complexity and high accuracy" that were undertaken during a planned technical shutdown lasting 77 days, did not make any reference to its exit from the system the following day, omitting information to the Cuban public opinion during his daily report from the UNE.

This Tuesday, the veteran journalist from the Cuban Television News reported the synchronization to the SEN of thermal units from Mariel and Nuevitas. In an attempt to cover up appearances and offer the information that was previously hidden from the Cuban public opinion, Espinosa interviewed engineer Roberto Manuel Pigueiras Fernández, the general director of the Mariel thermoelectric plant, who considered the events with Unit 6 from Nuevitas a few days ago as "normal."

It is normal that it is necessary for the machine to be taken out at some point to correct any parameter that does not show satisfactory behavior according to the planned. It happens not only in Cuba but also in any country in the world; the assimilation processes of thermal generation machines are normal and planned," the executive explained.

The report indicated that Unit 8 of the Mariel thermoelectric plant has already completed its maintenance and synchronized with the National Electric System at a power of 85 MW. At the time of its shutdown, the machine was generating 50 MW, clarified Pigueiras Fernández. The maintenance work it underwent aimed to provide the National Electric System with a gain of just over 30 MW.

"We are planning a level of interventions for the rest of the units, trying to clean up," said engineer Edier Guzmán Pacheco, director of thermal generation at UNE, stating that they are planning "short interventions of about five to seven days for each of these blocks, in a staggered manner, not simultaneously, so that by the time July arrives, we can have some stability."

According to the words of the director of thermal generation at UNE, the actions being taken are not "the solution" to the problems facing the obsolete infrastructure of the SEN.

"It has been explained that it is not the solution. It is expected that the blocks will become dirty and their power will be limited. However, this is anticipated in the summer assurance plan, aiming to minimize the impact on the public as much as possible," Guzmán Pacheco concluded.

What happens in the National Assembly is "foreseen" and is "normal", and supposedly happens "in any country in the world". What is not "normal" is the submissiveness and servility of the official press to the dictates of the power of the Cuban totalitarian regime.
