The Cuban government announced this week that the management of 20 stores within the national territory will be handed over to the Spanish group VIMA.
The announcement took place during the celebration in Havana of the fourth International Fair of Food, Beverages, Packaging, and Food Technology, where the European entity and Tiendas Caribe signed an agreement to create an international economic partnership that will oversee 20 commercial units in Cuba.
According to a publication by the officialist media Cubadebate, the first to be inserted into this agreement will be the Paseo and Infanta y Santa Martha markets, both in the Cuban capital.
"At this moment, the furniture and all the equipment are being prepared for operation," said Amilkar Odelin Ante, Director of Marketing and Business at Tiendas Caribe, who also indicated that the presence of this Spanish group is not new, since they "have a wide range of products known by the population."
On the other hand, Víctor Moro, Executive Vice President of the VIMA Group, highlighted among the products they plan to market on the island tomato puree, but also stated that "we will have frozen products, ranges of fish, vegetables, chicken, pork, and milk, which we know have high demand in the country" and announced that "we are launching a new line of beans."
In the midst of the economic crisis facing Cuba, the VIMA entrepreneur says that they must "be there in good times and in bad times. Cuba is like our home, where we have excellent business partners who have never let us down, nor have we let you down."
He also stated that the progress towards the online store will be parallel because the products "are in the market," which makes everything more expeditious.
The proposals of the Cuban Bread Company stood out at this event due to the increasing shortage of products they offer to Cuban families.
The photo shared by Cubadebate reveals a scenario that is completely distant from the reality of the Cuban people and what they can access.
Recently, Raúl Valdés Mantecón, director of the Cuban Bread Company in Cienfuegos, pointed out the reasons why the price of that food has increased in the area, one of which is that they have to buy flour from individuals, as reported by Perlavisión channel.
However, during the event, which took place at Pabexpo and where they celebrated their 25th anniversary, the company's employees organized tastings, pairings, and a round of questions that rewarded participants with souvenirs.
In addition, the joint venture Los Portales S.A., with Cuban capital and the Swiss giant Nestlé, presented at the event its new line of flavored waters Ciego Montero, with three flavors: apple, melon, and pineapple.
The good reception of the product by the public has been evident. The Ministry of Tourism has already started to acquire it to offer it in its facilities. Other institutions and stores in MLC have also shown interest in this novelty," highlighted Cubadebate.
The fourth International Fair of Food, Beverages, Packaging, and Food Technology took place at a critical moment for food security on the Island.
The government assured that the intention was to explore opportunities for food production in Cuba, with an eye on both the local population and the tourism sector.
