A Cuban plucks a hen in a park in Villa Clara to make a stew

In light of the worsening economic crisis in Cuba, some individuals are resorting to extreme eating practices.

A Cuban resident of the municipality of Manicaragua, in Villa Clara province, plucked a yellow-feathered bird, claiming that this bird is used to make "the best broth."

A person going by the name of yosvanmunoz on the social media platform TikTok posted a video this Saturday showing an older man plucking a tycoon heron in a park called La Chispa.

"I pluck it completely, I pass it through flames, I burn off all the feathers and remove the entrails, then I make a broth," the man said while the video shows him preparing the bird for cooking.

In plain sight of everyone, without a care in the world, the man pointed and said, "The richest broths in the world are those, you hear?"

As the economic crisis intensifies in Cuba and severely impacts people's food supply, particularly among vulnerable groups, some individuals resort to extreme practices such as consuming cats, dogs, and even stray animals, as their only means of survival.

Last November, a Cuban residing in the municipality of Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba, hunted a tiñosa, cooked it, and ate it.

"If you eat that aura, you are an aura," a woman tells him, to which he simply laughs and walks away.

Recently, several posts circulated on social media regarding the slaughter of dogs for their meat in certain areas of Mayabeque, which prompted a response from the government.

An informational notice signed by the Ministry of Agriculture addressed certain events concerning animal welfare that took place in the municipality of San José de las Lajas.

The government statement focused on condemning the "mass killings of dogs in that territory," which they described as "a violation of all standards of Health and Animal Welfare, contravening the ethical and moral principles of our society."

According to the statement, the Ministry of Agriculture strongly condemned this incident, which it described as regrettable, and announced that appropriate investigations would be conducted through the National Center for Animal Health (CENASA).
