The mother of Nesky Gabriel Escalona Ortiz, a young Cuban reported missing while serving in the military and found dead six days later, confronted officials during the boy's funeral.
A video shared on Facebook by the user La Tijera shows how, during the burial, the military stood under the shade of some trees, away from the family.
"Everyone should disappear. I handed them over alive, and look how they return my son to me, for defending the revolution," the distressed mother questioned.
"My son was sick, and none of them took him to a hospital, none at all. (...) I brought it up to them, and none took him to a hospital," she shouted after the coffin was placed.
The father of the deceased young man expressed that the recruits in the military service are only thinking about lunchtime and food, due to the hunger they are experiencing.
"They mistreat them, 24 hours a day on duty without food or anything, with an AKM that they can't even bend down or sit with, and all for nothing. The green is for what, to defend the country, not to abuse children. This country is a mess, those communist bastards," she said, tears in her eyes.
Nesky Gabriel was 19 years old and lived in the municipality of Habana del Este. He was completing his military service in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque. He was found hanging near his unit, in a state of decomposition.
The Facebook profile La Tijera claims that the boy's parents blame the superiors and officers for his death, as he had reported the mistreatment that he and the other recruits were subjected to against their will.
Mairelis Guerra Escalona, Nesky's cousin, revealed on Facebook that all indications point to the fact that he did not commit suicide, but rather was murdered.
"They hanged him near the unit where he was on duty," he stated, adding that "he was on guard at the unit and the next day he disappeared, and six days later he was found dead and decomposed."
In another post, Mairelis recounted that the body was found almost torn apart by scavenging birds.
"This is how the Castro government operates, forcing young people to serve mandatory military duty only to later kill and disappear them. Down with Díaz-Canel, down with the abuse against Cuban youth and prisoners," he stated.
