The youngest son of the renowned Cuban baseball player Lázaro Madera, who shares his father's name, recently left Cuba, as reported by sports journalist Francys Romero on his Facebook profile.

Madera Jr., a 14-year-old center fielder, “will look to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) organization in the Dominican Republic,” said the communicator.

He noted that the adolescent will begin preliminary training, since he will only be able to sign starting January 15, 2026.

During the recent national under-15 championship, he was a starter in the outfield for the Pinar del Río team.

His father, one of the great hitters from a golden generation of Cuban baseball, experienced the emigration of another of his sons a few years ago—Osniel Madera, a talented outfielder who also made his mark in the Serie Nacional.

"The decision to leave Cuba was to prove that I could indeed play at a different level of baseball," he told CiberCuba in an interview in 2017.

Regarding Osniel's exclusion, his father Lázaro admitted in an interview with PlayOff Magazine that "he was very hurt when he was left out" of the Cuba team.

"The only thing he said to me was, 'In Cuba, I’m not playing baseball anymore,'" he recalls about that significant moment in both of their lives.

"The next day, I went to look for him, we had a little meal, started talking, and he became stubborn about not wanting to play baseball anymore. This was between Tuesday and Wednesday, and by Friday I found out that he had left without telling me. If he wants to go and achieve his goal, then he should do it," he recalled.

Recently, an article from the digital portal JIT stated that Lázaro Madera never strayed far from the stadiums and closely followed the progress of his son Lázaro, just as he did with Osniel.
