The Cuban gardener Yadir Drake, player for the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) team Los Leones de Yucatán, gifted tennis shoes to the maintenance team of the stadium.
"Here we are all one family," said The Lions on their Instagram account, alongside a video in which the player himself is seen handing out shoes to the workers.
"Yadir Drake today delivered pairs of sneakers to our maintenance team colleagues for their work on the playing field," the post says.
The gesture of humility and nobility was appreciated by the stadium employees, who, after collecting their shoes, happily posed with the athlete from Matanzas.
"It's something that motivates us to keep going and to strive harder every day," said one.
"You saved us all from a predicament," another one expressed.
Drake's followers have also congratulated him for his attitude.
"Nice one, Drake! God bless you, buddy!" expressed the sports portal Por La Goma on Facebook.
Drake has been with the Yucatan Lions since 2019.
Born on April 12, 1990, he left Cuba in 2011 on a boat headed to Mexico, where he settled in semi-professional leagues.
In 2014, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball.
Then he returned to Mexican baseball with the Durango Generales, with whom he won the LMB batting title in 2017, and from there he went to the Japanese team Nippon Ham Fighters.
In 2018, he returned to the Aztec country with the Sultanes de Monterrey and the following year joined the Leones de Yucatán.
