The renowned former Cuban baseball player Carlos Tabares, who for years was the captain of the Industriales team, is now dedicated to the finance business in Miami, United States.

The journalist Yasel Porto shared a photograph of the stellar center fielder on his Facebook wall and stated that he "continues to establish himself as a financial agent in Miami."

“We continue working hard to help every day all the people who need to restore their credit and educate themselves financially with my mentors Senior Vice Presidential José A Cabrera and Senior Regional Vice Presidential Mike Burgos, we have the solution to your need,” Tabares expressed on his Instagram account, according to Porto.

According to the reporter, during weekends Tabares keeps playing in different popular leagues in the city.

The information provoked diverse reactions, from those who were happy and wished the former player success, to many who criticized him for being in the United States after having shown an affinity with the government in Cuba.

"Snitchy and spineless ballplayer. Wherever he goes, he will do whatever it takes to be next to those in charge. Pork rind," said a manzanillero.

"I admired him until he joined Gerardo's spirit in getting involved in politics and communism. I don't understand what he's doing in this country," remarked a resident in West Palm Beach.

"I thought I was going to start a franchise to sell showers," joked a young man, referring to when former spy Gerardo Hernández, coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), gave him a shower as a reward for planting food on his block.

"Another faithful example of the double standard he learned in Cuba and now applies in Miami," expressed a native of Pinar del Rio.

Tabares has been in the United States for some time. In March 2022, the journalist and co-founder of the site Pelota Cubana, Yordano Carmona, stated that he was waiting to obtain his legal residency, just a year after receiving the "famous shower" and declaring to Play Off Magazine that his country was "the best" place to live.

The baseball player, who also was part of the Cuban team, retired in 2018 with an impressive record that included 25 National Series wins, gold medals in the Olympics, and a second-place finish in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

One year later, it was revealed that he was under investigation for alleged trafficking of baseball players and for providing information to a Major League franchise, something he denied in statements to CiberCuba.

In his defense, his wife and sister then came out, recalling his trajectory as a revolutionary.

"He is more Cuban and more revolutionary than thousands; in fact, he never left nor will he leave his country. Here is and will be his story and his image," said his wife Magdalis Guerra.

Also his sister, Bárbara Tabares, said on Facebook: "The former athlete Carlos Alberto Tabares Padilla is a faithful and unconditional revolutionary, a party member since a young age, raised within this revolution, with strong and defined values since childhood."

A few months after this controversy, Tabares traveled to Tampa, where he spent a few weeks working as a "journalist" specialized in a project by Yasel Porto to interview former baseball figures from the island who are based in the United States, mainly in Tampa and Miami.
