The legendary Cuban actress Isabel Moreno, one of the most important artists in film, television, and theater on the island, died this weekend in Miami at the age of 82, from undisclosed causes.
With a career of over 60 years, Isabel is mostly remembered for her role in the film La Bella del Alhambra, where she played La Mexicana, the rival of the protagonist Beatriz Valdés.
On television, two roles stand out in two soap operas that were very popular in the 80s: "Today is Still Always" and "The Seventh Family."
Actor Héctor Noas shared a beautiful tribute text on Facebook and recalled that watching her on stage was a masterclass in acting.
Possessor of an imposing physique and a wonderful voice. What a sad loss, dear Isa! For those who admired you, your legacy in cinema remains, especially in that character in La Bella del Alhambra, which you yourself built with the complicity of your dear Enrique. It was a gift they gave each other!" he said.
Born in Havana on January 28, 1942, Isabel began to act in the 1960s in theater, as an amateur, in the play La taza de café.
He was part of various groups such as the National Dramatic Ensemble, Las máscaras, and La Rueda, but it was at the prestigious Teatro Estudio where he developed the majority of his stage career for over 20 years.
She participated in numerous plays such as A Streetcar Named Desire, Cold Air, The Millionaire and the Suitcase, and Blood Wedding. In 1987, she was awarded Best Leading Actress by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) for the play Who's Going to Have Coffee?.
In the cinema, he appeared in the films I Am Cuba, The Strange Case of Rachel K, Lucia, A Successful Man, The Beauty of Alhambra, and Transparent Woman, among others. He also worked on television in When the Water Returns to Earth, with Manuel Porto and Broselianda Hernández, and in The Clay Pot, alongside Vladimir Cruz, Jacqueline Arenal, and Miguel Gutiérrez.
Numerous artists such as Erdwin Fernández, Edesio Alejandro, Larisa Vega, Valia Valdés, and Alejandro Palomino lamented his passing.
"A whole stage woman, pure theater, a masterful display. We will always remember her!" expressed Luisa María Jiménez.
"What sad news, it was an honor to share the stage and TV with her," emphasized Inés María López.

Isabel Moreno was also a teacher at the National School of Arts (ENA) and the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA).
He emigrated to Venezuela in the 90s, where he could be seen in soap operas on channels such as Marte TV, RCTV, and Venevisión.
He definitively emigrated to the United States in 2001. There, he continued his career mainly in theater and television.
