Cuban actress Isabel Moreno dies in Miami

Isabel is primarily remembered for her role in the film The Beauty of the Alhambra, where she played the rival singer of the protagonist, Beatriz Valdés.

The legendary Cuban actress Isabel Moreno, one of the most important artists in cinema, television, and theater on the Island, passed away this weekend in Miami at the age of 82, from undisclosed causes.

With a career spanning over 60 years, Isabel is best remembered for her role in the film La Bella del Alhambra, where she portrayed La Mexicana, the rival of the main character Beatriz Valdés.

On television, two roles stand out in two telenovelas that were very popular in the 1980s: Hoy es siempre todavía and La séptima familia.

The actor Héctor Noas shared a beautiful tribute on Facebook and recalled that watching her in the theater was a masterclass in acting.

"Possessing an imposing physique and a wonderful voice. What a tragic loss, dear Isa! For those who admired you, your legacy remains in cinema, especially in that character from La Bella del Alhambra, which you built with the support of your dear Enrique. It was a gift you gave each other!" she said.

Born in Havana on January 28, 1942, Isabel began her acting career in the 1960s in theater, performing as an amateur in the play "La taza de café."

He joined various groups such as the Conjunto Dramático Nacional, Las Máscaras, and La Rueda, but it was at the prestigious Teatro Estudio where he developed most of his career on stage, for over 20 years.

She participated in numerous works such as A Streetcar Named Desire, Cold Air, The Millionaire and the Suitcase, and Blood Weddings. In 1987, she was awarded Best Leading Actress by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) for the play And Who's Going to Have Coffee?

In film, he appeared in movies such as Soy Cuba, The Strange Case of Rachel K, Lucía, A Successful Man, The Beauty of Alhambra, and Transparent Woman, among others. On television, he also worked on Cuando el agua regresa a la tierra, with Manuel Porto and Broselianda Hernández, as well as in La botija, alongside Vladimir Cruz, Jacqueline Arenal, and Miguel Gutiérrez.

Numerous artists such as Erdwin Fernández, Edesio Alejandro, Larisa Vega, Valia Valdés, and Alejandro Palomino expressed their sorrow at his passing.

"A true woman of the stage, pure theater, a masterful performance. We will always remember her!" expressed Luisa María Jiménez.

"What sad news; it was an honor to share the stage with her in theater and television," emphasized Inés María López.

"Sad news. Besides being one of the best Cuban actresses, she was a special human being. I remember her fondly and I am grateful to life for having shared many moments with her," recalled Zaida Castellanos.

Isabel Moreno was also a teacher at the National Art School (ENA) and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA).

He emigrated to Venezuela in the 1990s, where he appeared in telenovelas on networks such as Marte TV, RCTV, and Venevisión.

He emigrated permanently to the United States in 2001. There, he continued his career primarily in theater and television.
