Cuban-American Ana Margarita Martínez, the ex-wife of Castro regime spy Juan Pablo Roque, criticized Ana de Armas for her romance with Díaz-Canel's stepson.

Ana Margarita is the woman portrayed by the actress in the 2019 Netflix film Wasp Network, which focuses on Cuban spies infiltrating anti-Castro organizations in South Florida.

Upon learning about Ana de Armas's new relationship with Manuel Anido Cuesta, she stated that while she is not surprised, she is indeed "deeply disgusted."

"The news of her romance with Díaz-Canel's stepson confirms what I already knew: Ana de Armas is one of them. Their relationship exposes her complicity with the same regime that has oppressed and silenced so many Cubans for decades," she expressed in a post on her Facebook.

"It is the same woman who portrayed my character in a film that was partially shot in Havana, with the approval of the Castro regime, and that distorted a terrible episode of my life," she recalled.

Ana Margarita, born in Miami in 1960, stated that the producers of the film Red Avispa never consulted her and used her name without her permission, in addition to grossly misrepresenting her story for propaganda purposes, which reopened old wounds for her.

The publicist, who identifies as a "proud member of the Cuban exile community," accused the film of distorting reality, portraying exiles as mobsters while glorifying Cuban spies as patriots.

"Ana de Armas has never cared about the truth. The suffering of her Cuban compatriots, many of whom are still confined in the island's prisons, has meant little to her. Now we understand why," he concluded.

In 2020, following the premiere of Red Avispa, Ana Margarita stated that Ana de Armas should have shown more shame and respected the truth in her artistic interpretation.

"I would tell her that she should have had more shame as a Cuban and that, as a Cuban, she should have wanted to represent the truth and not have allowed herself to be used to portray an infamy against the Cuban-American community," she stated then.
