The Cuban sports community learned of the death of the distinguished coach Manuel Pérez Propín this Sunday, one of the architects of the great successes of women's basketball at the regional and global levels.
"The Galician", as he was affectionately called, is part of the select list of the best team managers in the history of the island, and his departure, the cause of which is unknown, is a hard blow to the country's athletic movement.
The renowned sports commentator René Navarro lamented his passing on Facebook: "A man of unforgettable accomplishments. Guide of our women's basketball team," he wrote as part of his message.
And it is that, among many other results, Pérez was instrumental in the bronze medal achieved at the 1990 Malaysia World Championship and the fourth place at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Likewise, the strategist celebrated titles at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and even at a pre-Olympic tournament.
User Ernesto Mariño, administrator of the Cuban Women's Basketball group on the mentioned social network, highlighted that "he was an educator and trainer of students, athletes, and colleagues from several generations."
Mariño even recalled that the immortal volleyball coach "Eugenio George once confessed to me that I was among his favorites and was immense in his work."
Extend your most sincere condolences to your family, friends, and acquaintances.
