Dozens of Cubans spend up to five days on the waiting list at the bus terminal in Havana amid the transportation and fuel crisis in the country.
The journalist Yosmany Mayeta posted images of several people of all ages, including young children, sleeping on the floor of the Villa Nueva Terminal in Havana.
"We have been here for 5 days trying to go to the East and nothing, this is going to take a while," said a traveler.
Mothers with small children sleep on the floor, there is a line for the bathrooms, and the buses that arrive "only call one or two from the Waiting List."
The reporter reports that the crisis is not exclusive to the country's capital, as in the case of the Santiago de Cuba Terminal, people who try to travel sleep outdoors because they have nowhere to shelter from the rain or the sun.
The people on the Waiting List are there because they need to travel, many have medical appointments, and others are returning home after medical visits or visiting their families; it is time to take action and work for the people, not turn our backs on them," the publication emphasized.
In May, Cubans were waiting up to six days to travel. However, the worst is yet to come, as the situation at terminals in Cuba tends to worsen during the summer months, when thousands of people move from one end of the island to the other, experiencing a hell that can only be resolved with bribes or protests at the waiting terminals.
This year, especially, the island is facing a serious fuel crisis that has forced it to halt several services while causing daily blackouts of up to 20 hours in several cities.
