The director of the Museum of the Image "Bernabé Muñiz Guibernau" was sanctioned for scheduling documentaries by filmmakers from the National Assembly of Filmmakers, an organization not recognized by the Cuban state, according to an official document shared on social media.

Demian Rabilero del Castillo was sanctioned for scheduling a series of documentaries that belong to filmmakers from the National Assembly of Filmmakers during the III Audiovisual Week, held between April 8 and 13, 2024.

This week documentaries are being screened, in the curation done by comrade Demián appears the Assembly of Cuban Filmmakers, and there is a day for them, which would be Saturday, April 13, where documentaries that do not conform to the cultural policy of our country would be screened,” reads the document shared by the affected party on their Facebook profile.

According to the document, the mentioned Museum director failed to fulfill "his obligation to report any incidents" to the Provincial Heritage Center.

The situation worsens if we take into account that this Association makes a donation to the Museum of Books and the colleague in question creates a video promoting the week, showing the donation, and thanking the Association himself. This video is then posted on his Facebook profile with the corresponding implications that it brings.

Demian, after sharing this fact, said he didn't regret anything. "I have done nothing wrong and I would do it all over again. We have lived and seen too much to know that the hand that rocks the cradle and gives orders can today bring flowers to yesterday's disgraced, but their ineptitude, like their poetry, is terrible."

The Image Museum is unique of its kind on the Island and is located in the Vista Alegre neighborhood of the city of Santiago de Cuba. The facility is divided into four rooms of permanent exhibition that address the history of photography, cinema, radio, and television. It has a protocol room, a cinema and video room, and a film vault, where materials are preserved in 16mm format with various themes.
