The Migration Law project published by the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) this Monday includes a section on the possibility for Cuban victims of human trafficking to avail themselves of the right to family reunification in Cuba.
The document, such as Law No. 1312, "Migration Law" of September 20, 1976, mentions that activities related to human trafficking are internationally pursued and constitute a condition for inadmissibility and potential expulsion from the territory.
Furthermore, it also establishes fines and administrative sanctions for companies that fail to comply with provisions related to immigration, including those that could indirectly facilitate human trafficking.
An important mention made by the project presented by the ANPP is that it allows Cubans who have been victims of these acts to avail themselves of the right to family reunification and return to the country on their own, with the collaboration of international bodies or organizations.
The document also states that it is possible to submit such a request at a nearby Cuban consulate or office, from whom they assure support can be obtained.
They also mention that in the event that the person is abroad, the immigration authority immediately informs the relatives in Cuba and facilitates the exchange of information between them.
The Migration Authority will take actions within its sphere of competence to provide prioritized attention, especially to minors.
To transfer a victim of human trafficking to the country, one can turn to international organizations or organizations that address these issues, as stated in the document.
It is important to note that people who want to avail themselves of their right to family reunification, having been victims of human trafficking, must provide their informed consent before the corresponding consulate.
On the other hand, foreigners in this situation can apply for residency in Cuba under the humanitarian migrant classification.
The bill also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation to combat human trafficking, highlighting the state's commitment to adopting appropriate preventive and punitive measures against this practice.
This Monday, the ANPP also published the draft legislation on Immigration. According to the government, the objective of sharing the bills is to "promote citizen participation and contribute to the legal culture" of Cubans.
