The comedian Ulises Toirac denounced that the Cuban authorities suspended his scheduled performance for next Saturday in Cienfuegos.
In a message shared on his Facebook wall, the actor recalled that this is not the first time it has happened to him and that he has nothing new to say.
"Beyond denying someone work because of their ideas or what they say, the way in which power makes it clear that speaking freely is impossible is brutally cowardly," he emphasized.
Toirac questioned that no one is stepping up or taking responsibility for the cancellation of the show, which was scheduled for Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Ateneo hall.
The ideals they claim to defend 'to the death' are very questionable. Unless 'the death' is that of another, and the weapon, the infinite fear of different ideas and cowardly power," he emphasized.
Dozens of followers expressed their indignation in the post and sent him their solidarity.
To a person from Cienfuegos who had planned to attend his performance, the comedian replied, "I'm truly sorry. The culprits (those closest to you) are at the Ateneo del Terry. You can go ask them."
Ulises was performing in May at Club Biky in Havana. After a performance, he was "temporarily" suspended, as he stated on his Facebook, although he did not provide further details.
In April, he complained that his participation was vetoed in a humor gathering at Café Teatro Bertolt Brecht, in the Cuban capital.
Once again, the long arm of the law. I was coordinating to perform by an invitation from the guys who organize it, at a comedy event that takes place on Saturdays at Café del Bertolt Brecht. 'Coincidentally', I can't work there either," he denounced at that time.
