Cuban elderly woman and her son with Down syndrome go hungry in Camagüey: "She goes out to the street to beg for alms"

A group that assists people in need sent the lady three boxes of milk, chicken, spaghetti, and detergent.

A Cuban activist denounced the extremely precarious situation of an elderly woman and her son with Down Syndrome, residents of Camagüey, who are going through such a severe crisis that the woman went out into the street to beg for alms.

Guelmi Abdul, who runs a support group for people in need, shared on his Facebook wall the story of Roger, the young man with Down syndrome, and his mother Gilda, who is over 70 years old.

I heard the news that they had nothing to eat, I'm not going to sugarcoat it, they were going hungry! To the extent that the lady went out on the street to beg for alms in order to buy something to eat," he emphasized.

Guelmi revealed that thanks to the donations sent by his collaborators, he was able to send the elderly woman and her son three boxes of baby nutritional milk, a large package of chicken, three of spaghetti, detergent, and a thousand pesos.

"I thank God and all those who contribute their bit. And here I leave their contact information for those who wish to go and help them," he said.

The son is named Roger Olivero Nápoles and his mother is Gilda Nápoles Donet. They live at Calle 1ra Paralela #413 between Miguel Ángel Núñez and Alfredo Adán. Reparto La Vigía. Camagüey.

His landline number is 32 23 52 83 and his cell phone number is 50301633.

Guelmi asked Gilda to share her situation. The elderly woman was so touched that she spoke more about her gratitude towards the help group than about her problems.

"My son has intestinal problems, he has Down syndrome, and he is sick. Proteins are very expensive, and I earn a social assistance salary that is not enough for the month," she noted.

"My son is eating through this group. (...) They are already noticing that he is thin, that he has problems, and he is a child who does not go out of the house, does not socialize with anyone, only his mom," he emphasized.
