An animal shelter requested help this Sunday to raise the 16,500 pesos needed to perform surgery on a dog that suffered a radial and ulnar fracture after falling down some stairs.
Yenney Caballero shared a post on Facebook showing the injured puppy and stated, "We need to stabilize it with fixators that will be left in for four weeks."
According to Caballero, the operation scheduled for this Monday at 4:00 PM requires raising 16,500 pesos to cover the necessary medications, including antibiotics and post-operative anti-inflammatories, for a duration of seven days. He has called on people to help gather the funds.
"In these operational cases, it is important to come together; what matters is achieving a positive outcome," remarked the activist, who has previously demonstrated unwavering support for the rights and well-being of pets.
Recently, an animal shelter in the province of Villa Clara sought help on social media for a dog that suffered a spinal fracture.
"You deserve all the beauty in this world, my Milagros," remarked Daime Pérez Ramírez in the Facebook group Society for the Protection of Animals in Cuba, while seeking assistance with diapers, Desitin cream, wet wipes, and any contributions for the recovery of the dog.
The scarcity experienced by Cubans has a particularly strong impact on pets, as their owners often find themselves unable to provide them with food.
This situation compelled two elderly individuals, who run an animal shelter in Sancti Spíritus, to seek assistance on social media in order to feed the 20 dogs they care for.
The ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation posted a message on Facebook informing that Esperanza and Guillén, who manage the shelter, had gone 15 days without receiving their allocated food supply, which prompted their request for assistance.
