Manuel Marrero calls for more "firm hand" in times of "wartime economy".

“I receive feedback from the population. They say, ‘Listen, you say we are in an economy at war, but the sanctions do not correspond to that wartime economy,’ ” said the prime minister.

Cuba's Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, advocated for applying a tougher stance against crime, corruption, and illegal activities, in line with times of "war economy".

He stated this on Saturday during the government visit to Cienfuegos "to correct distortions and reinvigorate the economy," in front of the provincial authorities and the delegation of ministers, members of the Communist Party, and leaders who accompanied him.

Emphatically, the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) referred to the complaints and opinions of the population that reach his office, requesting more "firm hand" against those who violate the law.

I receive feedback from the population. They say: ‘Listen, you say we are in an economy of war, but the sanctions do not correspond to that economy of war.’ It is an exceptional situation, where the main problems that the people are suffering, when someone commits an action of that kind, we must apply greater rigor (sic),” the prime minister said, according to the National Television News (NTV).

Banging on the table and on the chest, exaggerated gesticulation, and a somewhat boisterous manner in his speech complemented Marrero Cruz's emphasis on his call to "confrontation" and to abandon "softness."

The work system is not sufficient if it does not bring results. Is there more confrontation? Yes, there is more confrontation. But what there is no longer is confrontation from the administrative level, in the factory, in the warehouses, in the production centers," stated the Prime Minister, fervently extending his crusade against "crime, corruption, and illegalities" to every corner of the Cuban State.

Despite acknowledging that Cienfuegos shows a discreet decrease in the main indicators, Marrero Cruz called for a review of "the work of the confrontation groups" and an expansion of their scope of action, because the population demands it.

In the prime minister's speech, the people do not express their indignation with the incompetent rulers who have caused the greatest crisis in the history of Cuba. No, the people know that this "situation" is the fault of the blockade and of the criminals who take advantage of the situation to steal, speculate, and spread corruption throughout the country.

“How is it possible that with the depressed budget that this State has, social institutions are paying million-dollar amounts for activities that are not justified?” wondered Marrero Cruz.

In the same meeting, the prime minister accused owners of Cuban SMEs of spreading corruption and billing the state millions for work with inflated prices.

"Twenty-one million... Contracts that we have paid to those millionaires, which have already been determined by the MICONS [Ministry of Construction], that the work they did does not cost that much, it costs much less!", he declared.

At the beginning of June, the Cuban government acknowledged that its policy of "iron fist" and confrontation against crime was not yielding results and that criminal "phenomena" are proliferating in society.

Progress is not being made in the identification and elimination of the causes and conditions that favor the proliferation of these phenomena," Marrero Cruz pointed out during the meeting of the working group for the prevention and combating of crimes and illegalities.

An effective administrative confrontation is not achieved in factories, warehouses, where problems arise, in most cases. The population's dissatisfaction persists, demonstrating that work is still insufficient. It is necessary to intensify actions, primarily preventive ones,” emphasized the leader.
