Tropical wave in the Atlantic could reach the Caribbean as a hurricane

The system is moving westward at a speed of between 15 and 20 mph. In seven days, there is a 70% probability that it will become a tropical storm.

Cuban meteorologists have issued a warning about a system developing in the Caribbean that could become a powerful hurricane causing impacts on the island.

The satellite simulation of the American GFS model shows a hurricane entering the eastern Caribbean Sea on the first of July. The system has a high probability of developing into a tropical cyclone in the coming days," said meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez.

He pointed out that conditions will become favorable for the development of that low-pressure system due to a decrease in Sahara dust concentrations and more favorable winds in the upper levels of the troposphere.

In addition, there are high sea surface temperatures that also favor the strengthening and organization of this possible tropical storm.

So far meteorologists are tracking it as "a system in the Eastern Atlantic (AL95)". It is located hundreds of miles east of the Leeward Islands.

"This is something unusual in the month of July, although it is not the first time it has happened, and we will be monitoring it closely when it is already in the eastern Caribbean Sea," Ruisánchez explained.
