A tropical wave in the Atlantic could reach the Caribbean as a hurricane

The system is moving west at a speed of 15 to 20 mph. In seven days, there is a 70% chance that it will become a tropical storm.

Cuban meteorologists have issued a warning about a system developing in the Caribbean that could strengthen into a powerful hurricane, potentially impacting the island.

"The satellite simulation of the American GFS model shows a hurricane entering the eastern Caribbean Sea on the first of July. The system has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone in the coming days," said meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez.

She pointed out that conditions will become favorable for the development of that low-pressure system due to a decrease in Sahara dust concentrations and more favorable winds in the upper levels of the troposphere.

Additionally, there are high temperatures at the ocean's surface that also promote the strengthening and organization of that potential tropical storm.

So far, meteorologists are tracking it as "a system in the eastern Atlantic (AL95)." It is located hundreds of miles east of the Windward Islands.

"This is something unusual for a July, although it's not the first time it has happened, and we will be monitoring it closely once it's in the eastern Caribbean Sea," Ruisánchez explained.
