Mongolia donated one million dollars to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Cuba to support the food security of vulnerable and pregnant individuals on the island.
The Camagüey radio station Radio Cadena Agramonte reported that this contribution will benefit around 50,000 people, including 2,900 pregnant women and over 44,600 vulnerable individuals from the central provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos.
The donation was delivered in food by the ambassador of the Asian nation in Cuba, Zoljargal Seseer, and includes 400 metric tons (mt) of rice, 107 mt of cooking oil, and 250 mt of grains, reported the diplomat.
The donated food will be distributed through local warehouses, as part of the regulated family basket, said the Cuban regime.
During the delivery of the donation, Seseer highlighted that Cuba and Mongolia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960 when the island became the first country in the American continent to establish diplomatic relations with that nation.
Other nations have made donations to the island, in the midst of the serious food crisis that the population is facing.
In April, the Chinese government sent a donation of 68 tons of rice, which is part of a total of 408 tons that will be sent to Havana to alleviate the food shortage.
Also in January, a donation of 500 kilograms of medical supplies and powdered milk from Asturias arrived, while in March, Canada sent 150 tons of dairy products.
