Alexander remembers the Cubans who died at sea: "I feel a great respect."

The director of Gente de Zona could not resist the immensity of the sea in front of his eyes and dedicated some heartfelt words to those who died trying to escape from the island.

Alexander Delgado, who these days is on a cruise with Randy before the concert in Rome of Gente de Zona's European tour, expressed respect for the Cubans who in recent decades died while attempting to leave the country by sea, in search of a better future.

The director of Gente de Zona could not resist the vastness of the sea before his eyes and dedicated some emotional words to those who died trying to escape from the island.

I look at this and feel a great respect for those Cubans who lived through the nightmare of having to die at sea for freedom, how sad," Alexander wrote in his Instagram stories.

Alexander accompanied his message with a fragment of the iconic song "Patria y Vida" and a video of the sea recorded from the cruise ship, in which it is assumed to be the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, another place that has seen thousands of migrants die in recent years.

The exact number of Cubans who died in the attempt is impossible to know.

Estimates of the number of Cuban rafters who have died at sea in recent decades vary considerably due to the difficulty of obtaining precise data.

However, human rights organizations and press reports estimate that between 20,000 and 30,000 Cubans may have lost their lives in their attempt to reach the United States in recent decades.

That figure includes those who have disappeared and whose fate was never known.

The avalanche of Cubans heading towards the United States, either by sea or land, shows no signs of coming to an end.

Almost 19,000 Cubans entered the U.S. through its borders just in the month of May, according to the monthly data published by the Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP).

Of the total 7,491 did so via maritime routes, confirming the continued influx of Cuban rafters to the United States.

The U.S. government continues to insist that all individuals who try to or arrive illegally by sea will not be allowed to stay in the country, will be processed according to U.S. laws and policies, and returned to their home country or the country of departure.

Migrants who arrive by sea and are detained by the Border Patrol upon reaching U.S. soil are processed to be returned to their home country by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) office, with a prohibition on legally re-entering that country for five years.

Despite the authorities' attempts to deter Cuban rafters, illegal migration by sea remains an option for those who are determined to leave the country at all costs and have no other way to do so.

In one of the most recent cases, a group of 15 Cuban migrants were detained on Sunday night after landing in Key West, Florida.
