According to the outlet where he was serving as Editor-in-Chief, the National Police Station of Spain confirmed Espinosa's death, although the causes are still unknown.

Espinosa's body, who lived alone, was found by the Aranjuez firefighters after breaking into his home at the request of a neighbor who was concerned because he was not answering his calls.

Espinosa had been treating a neurosis in both legs for months, which caused sudden chills, small episodes of imbalance, and tremors in the hands, but he overcame them and kept working, even on the days with the worst mood, which he referred to as cloudy, as reported in the mentioned publication.

The writer was known for his numerous studies and publications on theater. Throughout his career, he compiled various anthologies on poetry, theater, short stories, and other topics, establishing himself as a key figure in literary criticism and research.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theater Studies and Dramaturgy from the Higher Institute of Art in Havana. During his time in Cuba, he worked at the Teatro Estudio group and at the Latin American Theater Department of the Casa de las Américas.

In 1986, he left the island to reside in Spain, where he acquired citizenship in 1990. There, he worked at the Theater Documentation Center of the Ministry of Culture and in the cultural program El Mirador of Spanish Television.

In 1998, Espinosa moved to the United States, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Spanish from Florida International University. Later, he worked as a professor at Mississippi State University.
