A Cuban man accused of sexually exploiting women in Mexico has been arrested.

A Cuban citizen was arrested in Colombia after Mexican authorities issued an arrest warrant for the exploitation of women.

Cristóbal Paulino Fernández was identified by Mexican authorities as the leader of a transnational criminal cell dedicated to the trafficking of women, as reported by the local press outlet Info Yucatán.

The Cuban man owned several nightclubs in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, such as "Candela," "Tropicana Angus," and "Bandidas," as well as seven brothels where the women "worked."

Last Thursday, the Attorney General's Office of the Republic in Mexico raided and closed all the places.

In a statement, the entity mentioned that "as a result of a coordinated investigative work with authorities from Colombia, a raid was carried out in three residences and three bars in said city (Mérida), which were executed by elements of the Ministerial Federal Police (PFM), the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), with the support of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), which provided perimeter security."

They also reported that the operation allowed for the rescue of eight victims of Colombian nationality who were being used for sexual purposes.

Likewise, Soledad "A" was arrested, "alleged main operator in the city of Mérida of a transnational criminal cell dedicated to human trafficking"; who collaborated with Cristóbal.

The Cuban was apprehended thanks to the simultaneous work of Colombia and with the participation of Interpol. "The corresponding procedures are already being carried out to present him to the authorities in Mexico," they mentioned.

A few hours ago, it was also reported that Texas authorities captured a Cuban illegal immigrant who is accused of several crimes, including trafficking and sexual assault.

Raysel Carrion-Tamayo, 34 years old, was arrested on June 20, 2024, in Del Valle, a peripheral city of Austin, the state capital.

Another Cuban was detained by the police in the city of Glendale, in Los Angeles, on accusations of trafficking immigrants from the island to later prostitute them.

Cuban Emmanuel García Guzmán was arrested during an undercover operation in the Californian city, which is part of the United States' actions against human trafficking involving Cuban citizens in areas such as Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Miami, reported channel 13News.

Last May, a Cuban couple were arrested in Miami on charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of two women whom they allegedly helped reach the United States; once there, they compelled them into prostitution.

Vicenta Polanco, 30 years old, and Luis Ariel Escalante, 24, were arrested and appeared before the Court, where it was ordered that they remain detained without the right to bail.
