Cuban pitcher Yariel Rodríguez achieved his first victory in Major League Baseball, following his team Toronto Blue Jays' win over the Seattle Mariners this Saturday, 5-4.
Rodríguez joined the Canadian team last February thanks to a 32 million dollar agreement for four years, he achieved his first victory after pitching six innings without allowing any runs to his opponents.
"It was a masterful 6-inning performance, 1 hit, 0 runs, 6 strikeouts, 82 pitches, and 45 strikes. Yariel's maximum speed: 96.2 MPH. This is his 2nd consecutive quality start," sports journalist Francys Romero evaluated the Cuban's performance on Saturday afternoon at T-Mobile Park in Seattle."
He also summarized that among the keys to this result are "more calmness, confidence, and command of pitches. Sooner or later, talent always shines through."
Rodríguez retired the first 10 batters he faced before allowing back-to-back walks to Josh Rojas and Cal Raleigh with one out in the fourth. The only hit he allowed was a single by Raley to lead off the fifth inning with a shallow shot to left.
With this result, Yariel Rodríguez's overall record is one win and three losses.
