Florida authorities confirmed that a shark attacked a man in New Smyrna Beach and assure that it is the second bite in 24 hours on the same beach.

The shark attack was reported on Friday, around 4:15 p.m. when a 26-year-old man, a native of Sarasota, was enjoying himself on a float, five feet deep, and was bitten on his left leg.

The bite wounds do not endanger his life, but the young man was transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment urgently.

Two shark attacks were reported in 24 hours in New Smyrna Beach. The first one was experienced by a 21-year-old visitor from Ohio on July 4th.

The young man was playing soccer with the water up to his knees. He was near Flagler Avenue. The shark attacked him by surprise, around 4 p.m.

This Florida beach has been very crowded throughout the vacation week. The good weather invites people to continue enjoying the sea, so lifeguards are warning visitors to stay alert and follow the instructions to prevent accidents.

On July 4th, in the tourist area of South Padre Island, near the city of Brownsville in southern Texas, two more people were attacked by sharks.

Agents from the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit pulled one of the victims out of the water and applied a tourniquet to his leg to prevent bleeding.

Texas authorities point out that encounters with sharks of this nature are not common on their coasts.
