Víctor Alfonso Cedeño, creator of Yesapín García, passes away in Miami.

The filmmaker had arrived in Miami three years ago.

Víctor Alfonso Cedeño, creator of the popular animated series Dany and the Berracos Club and the character Yesapín García, passed away this Monday in Miami, after a long battle against cancer.

His wife, Claudia Elizabeth Ruíz García, confirmed the news of the passing on her Facebook profile. "Lots of light for your soul, my love. You were my partner, my love, and my friend," she wrote.

Víctor, who was not only a prominent audiovisual director, but also a member of the November 27th movement, arrived in Miami thanks to a humanitarian visa to undergo treatment for chondrosarcoma, a type of cancer he was diagnosed with in Cuba in 2018.

The filmmaker underwent a grade three hemipelvectomy and radiotherapy, but despite the radical treatments, the cancer returned in early 2021, and in March, he underwent surgery once again, "this time with complex reconstructions due to surgical mishaps," as he explained in an interview upon his arrival in the United States.

In addition to the tumor returning, new tumors appeared in the area of the previous surgery and the doctors informed him that his case was already inoperable, which is the only possible route in Cuba to treat this type of cancer.

Through a childhood friend of Victor's who lives in Miami, they were able to schedule an appointment at the medical center. The filmmaker was able to explain his case to the doctor via video call and managed to get the treatment started.

At first, everything was done through video calls, and they would send medications to Cuba that he had to take, but it was necessary to continue in person.

The death of Victor has touched many Cubans who have enjoyed the antics of Yesapín. Ever since his illness became known, the Cuban filmmaker received a lot of help for both managing his visa or his care at the Sylvester Cancer Center, as well as for the expenses of his treatment, through a GoFundMe campaign.
