Political prisoner Angélica Garrido released after three long years in prison

Garrido called for the release of the political prisoners from the 11J.

Political prisoner Angélica Garrido was released this Wednesday after serving three years of an unjust sentence for participating in the peaceful demonstrations of July 11, 2021, in the town of Quivicán, Mayabeque.

I have just completed three years of unfair imprisonment for crimes fabricated by state security. In a video posted on Facebook, he said, "I leave my soul, my heart, and my spirit alongside my sister María Cristina."

The young woman added that her heart is with her "political prisoner brothers from July 11 and all the common prisoners who have also been victims of this ineffective and tyrannical system."

"My freedom is not a victory, I do not celebrate it, the victory lies in achieving Freedom," he emphasized.

In his statement, with a solemn tone, Garrido expressed that in Cuba, "peaceful struggle is illegal and prohibited by the government, which thus nullifies our rights, the Constitution itself, and freedom of expression," emphasizing that in "Cuba there is no democracy because exercising our rights is punished with jail."

"Our struggle is to raise our voice for a whole nation that urgently demands change," he said in his message.

Angélica and her sister María Cristina Garrido were confined in the women's prison of Guatao for participating in the demonstrations on July 11, 2021, in Quivicán. The regime's courts sentenced them to 3 and 7 years in prison, respectively.

The Cuban regime accused the Garrido sisters of the alleged crime of assault, supposedly for an incident that occurred inside a police vehicle, after both were arrested the day after the historic outbreak.

In prison, they lived a true hell, amid violence and threats from the prison authorities, who constantly threatened to suspend their family visits.

The young woman was among the political prisoners who at the end of February 2023 signed a letter with their blood demanding that ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel release the peaceful protesters from 11J.
