Ardenys García Álvarez, recently introduced by the Cuban regime as a key figure in an alleged terrorist plot against the country, had previously been prosecuted in the United States for human trafficking.
The revelation, omitted by the Cuban Television report that was supposedly attempting to convince viewers of the alleged terrorist attack, was made by the Telemundo network, which had access to federal records placing García Álvarez at the center of a federal criminal investigation in Texas.
The charges listed on this document, which CiberCuba also had access to, are not directly related to those that the regime attributes to this Cuban emigrant.
However, it is worth questioning the omission of this fact in their supposed "revealing report," presented to their viewers after an "exhaustive investigation."
Accused of "conspiracy to transport and harbor migrants," along with four others, Ardenys has documentation that remains sealed in the U.S. Federal Court.
This file, whose investigation took place between September 2021 and May 2023 in New Mexico and Texas, reveals that those involved managed a network for transporting foreigners within the U.S., in total violation of the immigration laws governing that country.
Ardenys García Álvarez, 40 years old and originally from Cienfuegos, was identified by Havana as a detainee who entered Cuba illegally carrying weapons, with the intention of undermining social order through an action "organized and financed by a group of Cuban terrorists based in the U.S."
García Álvarez had left the country illegally in 2014 and had been residing in the United States since then. He had a criminal record for offenses related to speculation and burglary when he left the island.
In his statements broadcast on national television in Cuba, Ardenys positioned himself as one of the three shooters involved in the alleged plan. Meanwhile, the group's leader would be Willy González, alongside Jorge Luis Fernández Figueras, who goes by the pseudonym "the Wolf."
González, who is the leader of the organization "La Nueva Nación Cubana en Armas," denied from his home in Orlando any involvement in an armed operation on the island.
"Our organization provides military training, but not for subversive purposes," González stated in an interview with Telemundo 51, adding that he does not recall ever having met Ardenys García Álvarez.
"We have not carried out any operations in Cuba, and we are not aware of any operations nor do we know anything about what they are talking about," said Willy González.
Willy González stated that "The New Cuban Nation in Arms" has no plans to violate U.S. laws, although they do wish to be prepared in the event of an armed uprising in Cuba.
