They are sabotaging the high-speed train network in Paris just before the start of the Olympics.

The disruptions could last all weekend. About 800,000 users will face mobility issues due to this reason.

A massive attack on the high-speed train (TGV) network affected rail traffic between Paris and several regions of the country, while another attack was thwarted on the southeast line, according to the French national railway company (SNCF).

The incidents occur on the same day that the inauguration of the Olympic Games is scheduled and during a holiday departure period in France.

No fatalities or injuries have been reported, but the actions did require the intervention of firefighters and police. The sabotages resulted in substantial economic losses and raised concerns about security at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the important sporting event that is about to begin.

In addition, the Franco-Swiss airport of Basel-Mulhouse was evacuated due to a bomb threat, increasing fears of other actions that could overshadow the opening of the Olympic Games.

Authorities suspect that the attacks, mostly arson, could be the work of far-left militants or violent environmental groups, possibly with internal complicity within the SNCF.

SNCF reported that problems on the railway lines will severely disrupt traffic throughout the weekend, recommending that passengers postpone their trips and offering options for ticket exchange and refunds.

The French government has strongly condemned the attacks, labeling them as criminal acts and ensuring that efforts will be made to apprehend and punish those responsible.

The Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, and other government members expressed their solidarity with the affected passengers.

The police prefect of Paris, Laurent Nuñez-Belda, announced the deployment of police reinforcements to the main stations to ensure safety.

The French government asked citizens not to go to the affected stations to avoid crowds and promised to send personalized information to each traveler via SMS.

The sabotage caused delays on three of the four high-speed lines, affecting about 800,000 passengers, including the Eurostar service that connects Paris with London.

The strategic distribution of the attacks suggests a clear intention to disrupt traffic on essential axes, with incidents reported in various locations, although one of the plans was able to be dismantled in time.
