Actor George Clooney, a well-known Democratic activist and personal friend of Joe Biden, has joined those within the Democratic Party calling for the president to withdraw from the re-election campaign.
In an article published in the New York Times, Clooney stated that Biden is too old to continue leading the country and warned that if he does not step down, the Party will lose the elections.
"I love Joe Biden. As a senator, as vice president, and as president. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. Over the past four years, he has won many of the battles he has faced. But the only battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can," he wrote.
The protagonist of Ocean's Eleven spoke about a recent fundraising event he organized for Biden in June, where he noticed the president's decline.
"It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I saw three weeks ago at the fundraising event was not the Joe Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all saw in the debate," he stated.
"Were they tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But the leaders of our parties need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just witnessed. We are all so terrified of the prospect of a second Trump term that we have chosen to ignore all the warning signs," he added.
"We hold our breath or lower the volume every time we see the president, whom we respect, step off Air Force One or walk toward a microphone to answer an unscripted question," he detailed.
The famous Hollywood actor stated that he shares the same views as congressmen and governors he has spoken to privately.
He suggested that the Party should choose a new candidate at next month's convention, and although he acknowledged that the process will be "messy," he believes it will "energize" the voters.
Clooney mentioned other potential candidates such as Vice President Kamala Harris, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
"Is it fair to point these things out? It has to be. It's about age. Nothing more, but also nothing that can be changed. We’re not going to win in November with this president," he emphasized.
