Cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are increasing in South Florida.

The CDC estimates that most states are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that coronavirus infections are rising in 39 states, including Florida and specifically South Florida.

According to updated figures on July 5th, the weekly average of COVID-19 patients in emergency rooms in South Florida has reached 2.64%, placing it among the highest rates nationwide during this summer.

Home coronavirus tests have become more difficult to obtain due to increased demand.

Health authorities warn that the peak in Florida has been linked to the recent celebration of the 4th of July or other events such as the Stanley Cup race or political rallies.

In addition, there is an increase in travelers arriving in the state, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

"As we already know, this virus mutates a lot, and therefore, we are seeing multiple different strains," said Dr. Paula Eckardt, head of infectious diseases at the system, in statements to Local 10.

Most patients are not as sick as in the past when we had the major peaks," he added.

So far, there have been no reported deaths from COVID-19 in Florida, despite an increase in the number of hospitalized cases.

Doctors warn that immunocompromised individuals or those with chronic illnesses must redouble the necessary precautions.

They also add that wearing masks in crowded places is still a good idea and that the vaccine is useful. They also advise washing hands, staying at home when sick, and, in general, using common sense to avoid possible contagion.
