They mourn the death of Dr. Yaimarelis Pico Carela in Santiago de Cuba.

Following her passing, a message of gratitude from the doctor to the hematology team at Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was posted on social media.

The death this Friday of Doctor Yaimarelis Pico Carela, who passed away at the young age of 44, left a great sorrow in the medical community of Santiago de Cuba.

Aris Arias Batalla, Provincial Head of Operations and Rescue, Aquatic Safety in Santiago de Cuba, announced on Facebook the death of the woman from Santiago, highlighting that the doctor "fought for more than 15 years with her illness, with that painful and terrible disease, being doctor and patient at the same time."

Arias, in another publication, publicly shared a gratitude message expressed by the deceased doctor, "to the medical team of the Hematology Department at the Juan Bruno Zayas Clinical Surgical Hospital."

He said about the team, "they never gave up, and for a long time they persisted in alleviating their physical ailments with treatments to prolong their existence. Unfortunately, the final diagnosis was known, no one hid it from them, as she, being a doctor, was always aware of their progress and complications."

At 44 years old, Pico worked as a doctor in Brazil and Venezuela, as well as at the Camilo Torres polyclinic, located in the historic center of the city of Santiago de Cuba.

Many will also remember her as an example of a good daughter, sister, granddaughter, friend, and mother of a teenager.

"Our condolences to his mother Josefina Carela, family, and friends," noted Arias.

The burial would be scheduled to take place this Saturday at 10:00 am.

Last April, the distinguished doctor Silvia Carlota Jústiz Hernández, who dedicated more than six decades to pediatric pulmonology, passed away in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

"With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Silvia Carlota Jústiz Hernández, an eminent pediatrician and teacher of generations, with over 60 years devoted entirely to the noble task of saving lives," the provincial health department of Santiago de Cuba posted on Facebook.

Recently, a 16-year-old Cuban athlete died of a heart attack, just a few days after winning the gold medal in judo at the National School Games.

María de Jesús (Jesusa) Mora Escalante passed away from a sudden heart condition in her native Santiago de Cuba, less than a week after returning from the competition held in Pinar del Río.
